Octavia Xiaozi Yang moved to London in 2010 to join the MA Fashion Artefact at London College of Fashion, after completing her BA Jewellery Design course in Shanghai.
Her MA collection is named ‘ Joinery in Jewels ‘. It is inspired by Asian joinery which was used in timber architecture and furniture for about 7000 years history already. The typical characteristic of joinery is that its smart construction can make two parts join together without any other things, such as pins, nail and glue. With the refining of Asian elements and the combination of different materials, the aim is to show the thoughts of Yin and Yang that the reverse only exists in balance of relationship to each other. Furthermore, the Designer expected to show there can be no force between the human beings and environment. Each part of jewellery can be removable by the smart construction which help extending the service life of fashion by changing the components for repairing or latest trend of color and textile. In this collection, traditional hand-made and modern technique are both involved, like silversmith, 3D print and laser cutting.
Octavia Xiaozi Yang is interested in collaborative work and would like to gain further experience with a high end luxury brands.
I don’t believe this kind of jewelry is very wearable for the regular consumer, but for editorials it’s very interesting. So stylists e-mail her!
I for one am looking forward to working with some of her pieces soon.
